Successful Christmas Cheer in Barrie

A group of several community organizations will make sure that about 400 families get a chance to enjoy the Christmas cheer.

The annual Christmas Cheer campaign finished last week and about 100 volunteers packed about 400 Christmas hampers.

The campaign is a result of the partnership between the Salvation Army, Journey Community Church, the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, a group of local churches, the Rotary Club of Collingwood and Community Connection.

Major Neil Evenden of the Salvation Army who serves as chair of the campaign stated that the support was huge and the community has been absolutely fantastic.

The hampers include food and various fruits and vegetables. Each family will receive a gift card that will allow them to purchase perishable products such as milk, bread, turkey ham etc. Families with children will also have a chance to visit the toy centre and select toys appropriate for their children.

Unfortunately, the current economic system leaves many people impoverished and life is getting more expensive.
