Real Estate Agents and REALTORS

Many people don’t know the difference between a Real Estate Agent and a REALTOR®.

A REALTOR® is also a real estate agent who is also a member of the National Association of REALTORS.

Before becoming REALTORS, real estate agents must agree to conduct their business according to the National Association of REALTORS’ code of ethics. The code of ethics provides all ethical requirements that deal with every aspect of the task of the REALTOR®, from working with clients and colleagues to providing truthful information when advertising.

Moreover, local groups composed of real estate agents form Multiple Listing Services or MLS in order to share listings more effectively.

Working in this manner, agents pay fees to the state as well as to their local REALTOR® organization.

All REALTORS are obliged to take education courses approved by the state licensing boards. The courses are mainly focusing on the ethical working habits and consumer protection points.
