Preparations for the Moving Process

The moving process can easily become tiring and discouraging, especially if you are not prepared beforehand.

Whether you decide to do everything on your own or hire a professional moving company, ensure you have everything set before you begin.

If you don’t know where to start, the best idea is to seek advice from your REALTOR®. As an expert in everything that has to do with buying or selling a property, a REALTOR® will offer you various possibilities that will certainly make the moving process run more smoothly.

If you choose to hire a moving company, you need to know that not all of them operate according to the same policy. Therefore, it would be good to hire certified professionals but before you make a deal, make sure that you know what their service includes:

• Will the company do the packing?

• Does the company provide insurance for your valuable items?

• How do they charge you – do they charge you on an hourly fee or a flat rate?

• Do they offer you protection against liability?

If you have all these issues sorted out and you like the offer, don’t think twice.

On the other hand, if you choose to move on your own, make sure that you have prepared everything from the packing at your old home up to the unpacking in your new home:

• Book a truck from a truck rental company and do this appointment a few days earlier.

• If possible, organize your things in order to transfer everything with a single trip. Therefore, think about the size of the truck you need first.

• Ask the rental company whether it provides packing boxes and dollies. If not, make sure you have the boxes a week before the moving begins so you can start packing step-by-step.

• Think about whether you need insurance. This is an individual choice but, of course, the safest option is to have your items insured.

Finally, when you start packing, don’t forget to organize. Label every possible box and try to sort the items according to rooms. Wrap all fragile items in a soft material before putting them into the box and keep them safe from breaking. Pack your most necessary items in a separate box as you will need them during the days of unpacking. Once you are done with this, you can star the process of moving into your new home. Good luck!
